They are used for blowing oxygen/ carbon in electric arc furnaces.Blast Furnace, basic oxygen furnace etc.
Greater Efficiency: of reaction with oxygen, pipes can be inserted in liquid metals with / without bending which avoids bubbling of oxygen near surface of metal or slag
Cost Reduction: considering above advantages, various saving can be expected as electric power, decrease in consumption of electrodes, lower melting time, saving in cost of pipes
Removes carbon from molten metal.
